I woke up in the dark of night thinking about my beloved country, Nigeria. I sat down in the dark, deep in thought, overwhelmed by the sad reality of the nation’s state. At first, while in the dark, it felt as if I were lifeless – everything around me seemed too quiet and out of reach. Besides, who winks in the dark and expects to be seen?

What is the reality of the Nigerian people? We are a country of about 237 million people, and according to the National Population Commission, young people under 30 make up 60% of the population. Unfortunately, that data is true, but the reality facing young people in Nigeria is sad!

The world is evolving; nations are developing. A few African nations are committed to structure and system, yet my beloved Nigeria, once the giant of Africa, is busy forming a new political party, fighting over who comes to a state, and sadly, building a funnel that leads funds into the pockets of corrupt politicians.

Oh, my beloved Nigeria! We are led by a few privileged leaders who have mastered the art of circling power. These are people who once walked and fought for a Nigeria they believed in without violence – they simply called the government to order. Today, no Nigerian is free to do the same without violence or oppression from those in power.

Where are the youths? Oh, my dear youths are busy on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter. A few of these youths are carried away with becoming social media sensations rather than national heroes. Our reality is controlled by words and actions. Sadly, our words mean little these days, and our actions say otherwise.

Nigeria is bleeding, and our youths are comfortable bathing in a pool of pain! How do I get out of this darkness? Who will help me? Dear youths, help me. Help Nigeria!!!
